Recognition path

From foreign diploma to ward-ready employment

This page maps the sequence we use in employment consulting for nurses seeking work in Germany. It is not a government checklist — it is the order that keeps candidates from applying to clinics before recognition and language can support an offer.

Why sequence matters

Employers in Germany often ask about Anerkennung status and German level in the first screening call. Candidates who reverse the order — mass-emailing HR before documents are coherent — burn goodwill. The path below is the one we walk in the Nurse Placement Pathway consultation.

  1. 1

    Inventory the dossier

Collect diploma, transcript, placement proof, identity documents, and any prior authority letters. Identify which pages need sworn translation for your target federal state.

  2. 2

    Open or clarify recognition

File or continue Anerkennung / Berufserlaubnis with the competent Landesbehörde. Plan for possible adaptation period or knowledge test if hour gaps appear.

  3. 3

    Raise ward-ready German

Align course work with B2 (or the level your region and role require), including medication and handover vocabulary — not only exam grammar.

  4. 4

    Target fitting employers

Shortlist hospitals, Reha clinics, or Pflegeheime whose hiring rules match your recognition stage. Prepare interviews with setting-specific examples.

  5. 5

    Contract, then arrival

Review shift and probation clauses, then plan Anmeldung, insurance enrolment, and the first orientation weeks near your workplace.

Questions candidates ask on this path

Can I apply for jobs before Anerkennung finishes?

Sometimes, if the employer understands your stage and language is already strong. Many clinics still wait for a clear recognition decision or adaptation plan. We help you read each posting’s requirements instead of assuming one national rule.

Do you file recognition paperwork for me?

No. We review and sequence; you remain the applicant (or your appointed legal representative does). That boundary keeps responsibilities clear.

Is Schleswig-Holstein required?

No. Our office is in Reinbek, but consultations cover candidates targeting other German regions. Advice always names the authority and hiring patterns of the state you choose.
